Rather than kick things off with a personal anecdote about the book I’m going to start with…DISCLAIMERS (read that in a dramatic, deep, announcer voice).
Disclaimer 1: Some have noticed that the book is dedicated to Christopher Columbus, which immediately gets people riled up. BUT, don’t jump to conclusions. Did his life inspire this book? Sure did. Was his life inspirational? If you’re a fan of genocide, approve of torture, support slavery, endorse extreme violence, and human mutilation, sure. If you oppose those things, not so much.
Disclaimer 2: I am not my characters. There are some strong opinions in this book, which I may or may not share, or share less vehemently. An interesting part of being an author is that readers generally assume that my opinions/beliefs align with those of my most outspoken characters. But that’s not the case. AND, many of my main characters and outspoken characters would completely disagree with each other. When I write, the characters take on a life of their own, and sometimes that means they can be pretty convincing when I’m not trying to be. If you feel angry about their opinions, get angry at them, not me!!
Disclaimers over! As for the story, it is…bonkers. Some familiar tropes–lost at sea, alien invasion–but I did my best to flip the preconceptions of how these things play out on their heads. The result is one of my most unique post-apocalypse/alien invasion stories, and maybe, just maybe, entirely unique in the whole wide world of fiction. I think. Maybe. We’ll see. 🙂 Now let’s get to it!
AUDIOBOOK:
The master is back!! R.C. Bray returns, making my book sound better than it is once again. That said, as is common with the King of Audio’s tight schedule, the audio edition has been delayed by one week. I’m told it will be out on August 31. So just one more week to go!
