PROJECT NEMESIS – THE TV SERIES!!!

The time has FINALLY come! I get to announce ONE of SEVERAL Hollywood projects that are in the works. And holy forking shirt balls, it is a big one. Like…kaiju sized.

That’s right folks, as reported in Deadline..

PROJECT NEMESIS, is in development as a TV series!!!

Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick 1 – 4) is at the helm, and if that isn’t awesome enough, it’s being produced by Original Film AND Sony Pictures Television (the team behind The Boys, SWAT, Preacher and Happy!). Below, along with some awesome Nemesis art, I’ll tell you how all this came about, where things are, and where we’re headed.

“I can’t say how excited I am to help bring Jeremy Robinson’s Project Nemesis to the screen. From the first moment I started reading it, I was hooked. This amazing book series has everything I love about the genre: martial arts, action, great characters, and of course, Kaiju!” — Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick 1 – 4

HOW WE GOT HERE

This all began so long ago I honestly don’t remember the year. But it was about six years ago, in September, when I got a call from director Chad Stahelski. He’d read Project Nemesis, and being a fellow kaiju fan with Massachusetts roots, he fell in love with the story. So much so that he wanted to create a series based on it. We spoke for about an hour, with him laying out his vision for the series…which matched perfectly with my own. I was on board, 100%.

And then, the waiting began. It was two years before Chad would go into Original Film for a meeting about the Highlander movie he’s directing and casually mention Nemesis. When he left that meeting, we had producers attached, and shortly after, SONY was on board. Thus began the years-long contract negotiations during which I met with Chad several times, and was lucky enough to attend the John Wick 2 and 3 premieres. Finally, a year ago, the contracts were squared away and signed. And since then–really for the past six years–I’ve been bouncing off the walls, dying to tell EVERYONE that this was in the works. And now here we are, and I’m freaking out. Hopefully, you are too!

John Wick: Chapter 2 – Advance Review *Spoiler Free*

John Wick 2 Invite

A few weeks ago, I received an unusual invitation: would I like to attend the John Wick: Chapter 2 World Premiere in Los Angeles? The answer, obviously, was: Hell yes! I loved John Wick, and have been a longtime fan of Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane, not to mention the director of both films, Chad Stahelski (who you can see beside me in this photo from a meeting before the premiere).

Chad Stahelski and Jeremy Robinson

I’ll be honest up front. I’m a little biased. My connection to the director, appreciation for the actors, and red carpet (it was black) treatment make my opinions suspect. But I’m a long-time action movie junkie, I write some of the fastest-paced novels there are (so I have a rep to protect), and I am generally an honest guy. If the movie sucked, I’d tell you.

PULSE – THE MOVIE – AN UPDATE

Unofficial Mock Movie Poster

So it’s been about a year since Variety broke the news about the PULSE movie deal.  Since then, the most frequent question I receive from fans is, “Is the movie getting made?!” So I decided to give you all an update. For those of you who are strapped for time, the short answer is, “I don’t know.” But the long answer is much more interesting, so keep reading!

The first step in any movie production is the creation of a script. Over the past year, screenwriter Adam Aresty, has been hard at work on the PULSE script. I know, because I’ve seen several drafts of the screenplay, which is now finished! And here’s what I can tell you about that: it’s awesome. Now, some purists might take exception to some of the changes that inevitably take place when a novel is turned into a movie, but as a screenwriter myself, I recognize the need for the changes and support them.

THE HUMAN RACE STARTED THE SIXTH MASS EXTINCTION ON EARTH…

A chain of subglacial volcanoes erupt in Iceland. The melting ice floods the countryside. Poisonous gas descends on Scotland. A tsunami devastates the Norwegian coastline. An ash cloud rises into the atmosphere, blotting out the sun across Europe, ushering in a new Ice Age. Dozens of nuclear power plants, flooded by ocean water, experience meltdowns. Millions perish. Many more are displaced. All on the first day.

On the second day, a series of earthquakes moving in a straight line, reveal the presence of something massive, walking across the landscape. Concealed by a thick, radioactive ash cloud, the ‘aberration’ heads west, toward Russia.

Abraham Wright, a science writer for Modern Scientist, who wants nothing more than to be reunited with his family, finds himself at the center of the United States’ response to the crisis. Under his new title as Assistant Science Advisor to the President, Wright is sent to Europe with a team of Army Rangers, where he uncovers the truth about the ancient behemoth laying waste to the world: there have been five mass extinctions on planet Earth, and the aberration has been present at each.

On the third day, the world fights back.

And loses.

Separated from his family by continents and oceans ravaged by countless disasters and populated by strange new life, Wright struggles to survive in an evolving world. Hoping to uncover the key to mankind’s redemption, he fights for answers, and to reach his loved ones—before the human race’s extinction.

THE APOCALYPSE MACHINE WILL FINISH IT.

Jeremy Robinson returns to the Kaiju Thriller genre he popularized with the largest Kaiju to ever appear in fiction: the Apocalypse Machine.  Bursting with all the epic action, desperate struggle and complex characters that readers have come to expect, Robinson takes the world to the brink once more, pitting humanity against the greatest threat he has yet to conjure, and asking the question: Does humanity deserve to inherit the Earth, or is our time up?

J.J. Abrams put out some of the most stunning, mentally twisting original stories in theaters and on our TV. Then he went and revitalized beloved franchisees from the past. Now he is bringing the two together and revitalizing one of his iconic original stories. I thought Cloverfield was lots of fun, and it used the found footage trope because it served the story, not because it served the budget. Still the only nod to that motif here is the presentation of the trailer. I love the theory that this was the intended way to show this trailer as a omega to the original. And, even as one who enjoys set rumors and a year of different trailers and images, the idea of “Surprise, I made an entire movie while no one was looking at anything other than Star Wars.” is awesome.

Did you like the original Cloverfield? What do you think of the trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane?
